" It is much more important to know

what sort of person has a disease,

than to know what sort of disease a person has"

Dr. William Osler MD

The physical body is made up of systems. Our gastrointestinal, hepatic, immune, cardiovascular, respiratory, urinary, pancreatic, endocrine, nervous, muscular/skeletal systems make up who we are. To find the cause of disease, understanding how our physical body is made up and how these systems work synergistic is of vital importance. This section will give you the understanding of the primary systems within our body and key disturbances that may occur in each. It will also investigate symptoms related to these systems and functional and pathology testing to verify clinical observations.

A system as a whole cannot be explained by its constituents alone. If we reduce the complexity of a living organism just to the characteristics of its isolated parts, the dynamics of cellular and organismal function cannot be understood.

By characterising isolated parts we only create a parts list.
